Deadly Explosion at Turkish Pasta Factory Leaves⁣ 30 Injured

Tragedy Strikes in Sakarya

A⁢ devastating explosion occurred‍ at the Oba Makarna pasta factory in the Hendek area of Sakarya, Turkey, on ‌September 15, resulting in one fatality and⁣ injuring 30 people, six of whom are in critical condition.

The cause ⁣of the explosion, which happened in the attic‍ of the factory, ‍is ⁤still unknown. The blast triggered a fire that ‍broke out in the‌ facility, ‌prompting a swift response from emergency services.

Medical teams rushed the ⁤injured to‍ nearby⁣ hospitals, where they received treatment. Firefighters worked tirelessly to control‍ the fire and minimize damage to the factory.

Sakarya ​Metropolitan‍ Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar stated that initial ⁣findings suggested the explosion occurred in the attic, adding ⁣that efforts⁣ were being ‍made to control the fire as soon‍ as possible.

Sakarya Governor Yaşar Karadeniz reported that 57 workers and two⁣ kitchen staff members were present at the factory during the explosion. Initial assessments indicated that ⁤the blast ‍occurred in the mill ‌section.

Later,‍ the Sakarya Governorate announced that one person was‍ found dead⁤ in the debris,⁤ and the number of injured had risen to 30. Two of the seriously injured were intubated, ⁣and three ⁤firefighters were slightly injured during cooling efforts.

Deputy Health Minister Halim Özçevik provided an update on⁤ the condition of the injured, stating that five had been released,‍ including one​ firefighter. Two patients were intubated, ​and one was transferred ​to ⁢Istanbul due to their critical condition.

Özçevik also‍ mentioned that ‍a 12-year-old child, who had accompanied his father to work, was among the injured. Fortunately, the child is‍ in ⁤good condition.

The ⁢worker who ​lost his life in the explosion was identified as 27-year-old ‌Mesut Simay. ⁢His body was found on the stairs of the ⁢factory’s fifth floor‍ and​ taken to a forensic center for DNA testing to confirm​ his identity.
