Indonesia Arrests 2 Thais Carrying Methamphetamine and Ecstasy at Bali Airport
Two Thai citizens face the death penalty in Indonesia after being arrested with methamphetamine, ecstasy, and crystal MDMA at the international airport in Bali.
According to AFP news agency, the two Thais were arrested by Indonesian officials on September 3. The seized drugs were intended for delivery to two Indonesians who had ordered them.
Rudy Ahmad Sudrajat, head of the Bali Narcotics Control Office, confirmed the arrest and seizure of the drugs during a press conference. An Indonesian suspect was arrested at the same airport on September 8, while another drug courier was also apprehended.
Indonesian police have been cracking down on drug trafficking, with two Europeans arrested in July. A Latvian man and a Swedish woman were suspected of being part of a criminal gang and were found with marijuana. The Latvian man faces a 20-year prison sentence, while the Swedish woman was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Indonesia has some of the strictest drug laws in the world, with the death penalty imposed on those found guilty of drug trafficking. Dozens of drug traffickers are currently on death row in Indonesia.
