Ukrainian Drone with Rifle Targets Russian Troops
A Ukrainian drone, known as the “Hornet Queen,” has been spotted with a rifle attachment, sparking fear among Russian soldiers on the front line.
Drone Developed in Ukraine
A video on social media shows the “Hornet Queen” in operation in Donetsk, equipped with a rifle, likely an AK-74. The drone has already targeted Russian soldiers, according to the “Hornet Group,” a group of volunteers who build drones for the Ukrainian military.
Combat Mission
The “Hornet Group” explained that the drone’s first combat mission was carried out against Russian forces. The footage shows a rifle barrel in front of a camera attached to the drone, firing repeatedly.
Technical Challenges
A drone expert told the Kyiv Post that the device’s ability to fire accurately is a significant challenge, requiring additional aiming devices and dealing with limited ammunition. The recoil’s impact on the drone’s trajectory is also a concern.
Drone Development
The “Wild Hornets” group developed the drone, which contains 65% Ukrainian components, at the request of the K-2 battalion commander. The drone can carry up to 9.5 kilograms and has various functions, including mine detection and signal amplification.
Combat Use
According to the Kyiv Post, 100 of the drones are already being used for combat, with a new version soon to be able to carry a weight of up to 18 kilograms.
