Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has officially achieved Steam Deck Verified status following the release of Patch 1.3 on April 9, 2026. This designation indicates that the title is now optimized for Valve’s handheld gaming device, ensuring a stable and functional experience for portable users.

The latest update specifically targets performance issues that previously hindered the handheld experience. Patch 1.3 resolves sniper hitching and provides general performance boosts to ensure smoother gameplay on the Steam Deck.

In addition to the handheld-specific fixes, the update addresses broader PC performance. Reports indicate that Patch 1.3 resolves frame rate drops that were occurring across various PC configurations.

Technical Optimizations and PCIe Bandwidth

The move toward Steam Deck verification was supported by a significant update released earlier in the month. Patch 1.2, deployed on April 2, 2026, introduced foundational optimizations to the game’s data handling.

Technical Optimizations and PCIe Bandwidth

Kojima Productions and PlayStation Publishing implemented optimizations to reduce the amount of data being transmitted between the GPU and CPU over the PCIe bus interface. This technical adjustment was designed to benefit most hardware configurations by reducing bottlenecks in data transmission.

For handheld users, Patch 1.2 included specific optimizations focused on portable devices to improve overall performance, setting the stage for the full verification achieved in the subsequent 1.3 update.

General Stability and Input Fixes

Along with performance upgrades, the development team addressed several technical bugs and user interface issues in the April 2 update. These improvements spanned graphics, input registration and stability.

  • Screenshots captured in Photo Mode using HDR no longer appear washed out.
  • DualShock 4 triggers no longer require a full press to register input when utilizing Steam Input.
  • Various bug fixes were applied to the Map user interface.
  • General stability improvements and graphics-related bug fixes were implemented.

Beyond the official patches from the developers, Valve contributed to the game’s performance on Linux-based systems. Towards the end of March 2026, Valve released an update to Proton Experimental that provided additional improvements for Death Stranding 2 on Linux.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was released on March 19, 2026. The rapid succession of performance patches in April indicates a focused effort by Kojima Productions and PlayStation Publishing to refine the PC and handheld experience shortly after launch.
