Carscoops, a foreign automotive media, reported the news of a triple collision between Teslas on the highway. A motorist driving on Highway 101 in California, US, has released a video captured by his rear-view camera.

A red Model 3 traveling in the second lane changed lanes to the first lane to overtake the red Model Y, the vehicle in front. However, the dark gray Model S driving in the first lane failed to brake in time and hit the back of the Model 3.

As a result of this collision, the Model 3 overtook the Model Y and struck the highway median. Following the collision, the Model S also collided with the side of the Model Y in the second lane.

Due to this accident, American netizens began to have a heated debate about the cause of the accident. The question “Was the accident caused by an error in Tesla’s self-driving system “Autopilot” has become a hot topic.

Those who believe it was an autopilot error argue that the accident occurred because the Model 3 began changing lanes to overtake the Model Y, but did not recognize or recognize the Model S, which was traveling at high speed in the first lane, or was recognized late.

Netizens with opposing views retorted that it was the driver’s fault for changing lanes without checking the side mirror while attempting to change lanes.

The cause of this accident is currently unknown. Accidental situations like this accident often occur on the road. Tesla’s Autopilot is currently the most advanced self-driving system, but it cannot respond perfectly to all situations.

For this reason, caution must be exercised when using autonomous driving systems. Of course, even if you don’t use autonomous driving, when changing lanes you need to take the time to understand your surroundings and then turn on your turn signal before proceeding.
