West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi inspected the Cirahong Bridge on April 9, 2026, to verify the restoration of traffic flow and the cessation of illegal levies at the site. The bridge, which serves as a critical link between Ciamis and Tasikmalaya regencies, had recently gained notoriety after videos surfaced online showing local residents collecting money from motorists in exchange for passage.
The governor’s visit followed the removal of the unauthorized checkpoints. According to reports from Tribun Jabar, the West Java Provincial Government had previously installed banners stating Tidak Dipungut Biaya
(No Fee Charged) on April 5, 2026, to notify the public that the bridge is free to use. Local village officials subsequently stopped the resident-led guarding activities to avoid further controversy on social media.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Safety Measures
During the inspection, Dedi Mulyadi confirmed that the bridge is sturdy and safe for public use. He specifically noted that motorcycles are now able to pass in both directions simultaneously without congestion. The governor highlighted that the bridge’s flooring has undergone significant repairs funded by the West Java Provincial Budget (APBD), with the project valued at nearly Rp1 billion.
To ensure the quality of the repairs, the provincial government sourced timber from Sumatra, adhering to recommendations provided by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI). This structural reinforcement was necessary to maintain the safety of the iconic bridge, which is a key landmark in the southern region of West Java.
Beyond structural integrity, the provincial government is focusing on improving visibility and aesthetics. At the time of the visit, 26 lights had already been installed on the bridge. Dedi Mulyadi instructed that this number be increased to 30 lighting points to enhance safety and comfort for users traveling at night.
Legal Warnings and Future Development
The Governor expressed strong disapproval of the illegal levies, warning that those who persist in demanding unauthorized payments from motorists will face criminal charges. The illegal activities were previously justified by local residents who claimed that without their intervention, the bridge would experience traffic jams.

In addition to the security and structural improvements, You’ll see plans to transform the area around the Cirahong Bridge into a tourist destination with a Sundanese cultural theme. This initiative aims to combine infrastructure utility with regional tourism development.
The governor stated that he has coordinated with the Director of PT KAI to facilitate these improvements, which will include painting and the installation of additional lighting to make the bridge more aesthetically pleasing. The project is currently in the process of obtaining the necessary provincial permits.
Nih lihat nih, motor dua jalur tuh, aman kok, nggak macet

The current status of the bridge remains open and free of charge, with the provincial government continuing to monitor the site to prevent the recurrence of illegal levies while completing the planned aesthetic and safety enhancements.
