A Canadian couple in their 80s who maintain a fit body through regular exercise and health management are a hot topic online. The British Daily Mail introduced a video showing the 80-year-old grandparents of former Canadian rugby player Phil McKenzie (37) exercising.
MacKenzie, who is currently working as a sports commentator, regularly posts videos of himself exercising with his grandparents on social networking services (SNS). In one video, MacKenzie shows his grandfather lifting weights and credits consistent strength training as the secret to his good health.
“My 83-year-old grandfather does strength training every day, including 500 push-ups three times a week,” said MacKenzie. “My grandfather’s secret to good health is also to value news and lots of movement.”
“My grandfather has been restricting calories consistently,” MacKenzie said. “When he does eat, he always eats small amounts.” He also said, “My grandfather constantly reminded me that the moment I stop moving, I stop living.”

MacKenzie also noted that her 80-year-old grandmother also tries to live a healthy life. MacKenzie said she gets enough sleep, walks a lot, and avoids processed foods.
“It’s amazing how easily the grandmother can keep up with her grandchildren at a walking pace,” MacKenzie said, sharing videos of the grandmother running on a treadmill and leisurely climbing stairs.
“My grandparents always had regular bedtimes and wake-up times,” said MacKenzie. “If you adopt the lifestyle of your grandparents, you can live a healthy life well into your 80s.”
