Delhi Schools Adjust to Pollution Measures
New Delhi is facing severe smog, prompting the government to ban in-person classes for all students. In response, schools are changing their academic schedules. They aim to help students in classes 10 and 12 prepare for board exams effectively while ensuring their health.
Typically, schools hold pre-board exams for these classes in November. Tania Joshi, principal of The Indian School, explained that mock exams were set to start Wednesday. Now, schools are swapping their November and December plans to conduct crash courses immediately. Exams will happen later.
Several school principals mentioned the need for quick adjustments. Sudha Acharya, principal of ITL Public School, noted that last pre-board exams had to be rescheduled due to the government’s closure notification. These exams are now set for November 25 and 27.
Parents have mixed feelings. While many support the school closures, they worry about board exam preparation. Aprajita Gautam, a parent of a Class 12 student, expressed concern that delays in the first pre-board exam could impact the following one.
Anil Kumar, principal of Delhi Public School, RK Puram, assured that schools can effectively switch to online classes. He emphasized that online learning has become a regular part of education since the pandemic, which should help maintain academic progress.
