In an interview with WIRED published on May 19, 2026, Hassabis argued that companies should utilize the productivity gains provided by AI to increase their output rather than using the technology as a justification for layoffs.

According to Hassabis, the model is capable of translating large code bases from one programming language to another and identifying and fixing bugs located deep within complex code. Hassabis proposed a different framework for interpreting AI-driven efficiency. He suggested that if software engineers become three or four times more productive through the use of AI, the logical response for a company is to attempt to accomplish three or four times more work.
