Democratic Party of Korea Nominates Kwak Sang-eon for Jongno District in General Election: Updates on Central Committee Meeting

The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 28th that it has nominated lawyer Kwak Sang-eon, son-in-law of former President Roh Moo-hyun, in Jongno, Seoul, as the sole candidate in the April 10 general election. Former MP Lee Jong-geol, who was preparing to run in Jongno, was eliminated.

The Democratic Party’s Nomination Management Committee today announced the results of the eighth round of candidate screening for 9 constituencies in the National Assembly. In Seoul, lawyer Kwak of Jongno and Jaehee Cho, former president of Songpa Gap Korea Polytechnic University, received unique nominations. Initially, the Songpa-gap Democratic Party approached former Blue House chief of staff Lim Jong-seok as a candidate, but former chief Lim was reported to have declined. In Gyeonggi, Guri incumbent MP Yoon Ho-jung and Gimpo-eul incumbent MP Park Sang-hyuk received a suspended vote.

In Sokcho-Inje Goseong-Yangyang, Gangwon-do, former Army Reserve Lieutenant General Kim Do-gyun, former commander of the Capital Defense Command, who served as the main representative of the South Korean side at the time of the inter- war of September 19th. The Korean military agreement received only one nomination. In Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, a two-way primary will be held between incumbent MP Kim Won-i and Bae Jong-ho, vice chairman of the Democratic Party’s Strategic Planning Committee, and in Goheung Boseong and Jangheunggangjin, Jeollanam-do, a Le two-way primaries will be held between incumbent MP Kim Seung-nam and former governor of Jeonnam Administrative Government Moon Geum-ju.

In Gangwon-do’s Chuncheon Cheorwon Hwacheon Yang-gu district, a two-person primary will be held between Yoo Jeong-bae, former chairman of Korea Coal Corporation, and former Chuncheon Cheorwon Hwacheon Yang-gu district chairman of Seongseong.
