On the 19th, the Democratic Party of Korea threatened that approval by the National Assembly would be difficult when former opposition Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun and National Unification Committee Chairman Kim Han-gil were mentioned as the new Prime Minister. A ‘secret’ frame was also raised for the claim that First Lady Kim Kun-hee was behind the personnel chaos in the President’s Office.

Regarding the possibility of the Democratic Party’s confirmation of former Minister Park as prime minister, Rep. Jeong Seong-ho, the leader of the pro-Myung faction, said, “I think the possibility of appointment is low because the process itself is undesirable.” Regarding Chairman Kim Han-gil, he said, “He served as floor leader and party leader in the Democratic Party and left the party to join the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, so the National Assembly’s approval process will be quite difficult,” and “I think (the Democratic Party’s consent) will be more difficult.” The prime minister must go through a personnel hearing and be approved by the National Assembly, so the consent of the Democratic Party, which secures a majority of seats, is essential.

Representative Lee Jae-myeong also expressed his displeasure on Facebook, saying, “The Democratic Party is not foolish enough to be fooled by a joint attack under the guise of cooperation.” President-elect Park Jie-won said, “The trick of overlooking, betraying, pretending to cooperate, destroying the opposition party, and eventually appointing one’s own people through the trick of saying, ‘I still tried’ continues,” adding, “Despite the crushing defeat in the April 10 general election, there is still no direction.” “The Yoon Seok-yeol regime, which cannot be controlled, must go bankrupt,” he said.

In the Democratic Party, an uncomfortable atmosphere was felt despite the fact that former Minister Park did not clearly express her intention to refuse. President-elect Choo Mi-ae said on MBC radio that day, “(Former Minister Park) seems to not know much because he is abroad,” and pointed out, “He is only trying to create a packaging for cooperative governance, but that part needs to be pointed out clearly.”

The Democratic Party also brought up ‘Choi Soon-sil’s manipulation of state affairs’ and raised suspicions about first lady Kim Kun-hee’s secret affairs. Supreme Council member Seo Young-kyo said at the Supreme Council meeting on this day, “The report on ‘Park Young-sun and Yang Jeong-cheol’ came out through (Presidential Office) secretaries K and L, and they were widely rumored to be the ‘Kim Kun-hee line.’” He added, “The Kim Kun-hee line and Mrs. Kim are involved in state affairs.” “Is it at the center of farming?” he asked.
