DePaul Falls to Texas Tech in First Loss of Season
LUBBOCK, TEXAS – A late second-half surge wasn’t enough for the DePaul men’s basketball team as they suffered their first loss of the season, falling 76-62 to the (RV) Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road Wednesday night.
Despite the setback, the Blue Demons (7-1) showed resilience, battling back from double-digit deficits twice. Junior guard Jacob Meyer lead the charge with a team-high 14 points, including four three-pointers. Sophomore forward JJ Traynor joined him in double figures with 11 points on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting performance. Redshirt junior David Skogman nearly notched a double-double, contributing nine points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Red-Hot Shooting, Tough Defense
The Red Raiders (7-1) jumped out to an early lead, but DePaul responded with a barrage of three-pointers.The Blue Demons went 9-of-13 from beyond the arc in the final 13 minutes of the first half, erasing a 15-point deficit with a 17-2 run. A three-pointer by senior guard Javan Enright gave DePaul its first lead of the game, 34-33, before Texas tech took a slim one-point advantage into halftime.
Texas Tech stifled DePaul’s offense coming out of the break,extending their lead to double digits. Though, the Blue Demons refused to quit, holding the Red Raiders scoreless for over three minutes and mounting a 9-0 run capped off by a Skogman three-pointer. Despite their best efforts, DePaul couldn’t overcome the deficit as Texas Tech answered the challenge and secured the victory.
