Deputy Prison Officer Suspended Following Phone Calls from Inmate’s Seized Mobile

In a concerning development, Deputy Prison Officer Santhosh Kumar has been suspended in relation to the repeated phone calls made by prison officials from a mobile phone that was confiscated from an inmate at Poojappura Central Jail.

Kumar, previously stationed at the Central Jail, was recently transferred to the sub-jail at Poojappura Kunchalummood. The latest call made from the seized phone reportedly originated from Kumar’s device. Moreover, investigators have discovered that money was transferred from the account of a member belonging to a notorious drug mafia gang to the officer’s wife’s account.

Last month, authorities recovered the phone along with two SIM cards from the sixth room of the first block. Subsequently, the confiscated items were handed over to the Superintendent of Police Jail at Poojapura. During the period when the phone was under police custody, prison officials contacted it. Further scrutiny led to the revelation that funds had been transferred to an account held by an associate of the offender. The matter was promptly investigated by the intelligence department, which subsequently provided a comprehensive report.

This turn of events has led to the suspension of Deputy Prison Officer Santosh Kumar, pending further investigation and due process.
