Derrick Van Orden Refuses To Return Campaign Cash From Max Miller Amid Domestic Abuse Allegations

Representative Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin has refused to return a $2,500 campaign contribution from Ohio Representative Max Miller, who faces serious allegations of domestic abuse, according to new reporting from Politico highlighted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

Asked about the donation on Tuesday night during an interview concerning state primary election results, Van Orden declined to discuss the matter, according to Politico. He reportedly dismissed the accusations against Miller as allegations he had heard about “the day before yesterday.”

The refusal places Van Orden among a group of congressional Republicans maintaining silence regarding campaign funds received from Miller. According to Politico, Miller has directed campaign cash to more than a dozen fellow Republicans running in competitive midterm races, while few recipients have clarified whether they intend to return the money.

Congressional Response and Pressure From Colleagues

While several lawmakers have chosen not to address the funds, other members of the Republican caucus have taken a different stance. Over the past several weeks, multiple Republican senators called for Max Miller’s resignation amid the allegations, including Senators Bernie Moreno, Jon Husted, Tim Sheehy, Shelley Moore Capito, and Roger Marshall, according to DCCC data.
