Devo and B-52s Announce Joint Cosmic De-Evolution Tour

New Wave music icons Devo and The B-52s are joining forces for the Cosmic De-Evolution Tour, hitting 11 North American markets. The tour, a major music event, kicks off Sept. 24 in Toronto, with Lene Lovich as the opening act.
The collaboration sparked during the SNL 50 anniversary concert earlier this year. Both bands performed alongside contemporary artists, leading to the realization that they had rarely toured together. Cindy Wilson of The B-52s noted the rarity of their joint appearances.
Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo said the SNL anniversary created an amazing prospect for the tour. He praised The B-52s’ unique sound from the late 1970s and early 1980s, citing “Rock Lobster” as a personal favorite.
kate pierson of The B-52s recalled their early days in New York City,amidst the punk and New Wave scenes.She expressed admiration for bands like Patti Smith, Talking Heads, Blondie, and the Ramones, and also Devo’s distinctive style. Pierson fondly remembered partying with devo at the Mudd Club.
the B-52s initially announced their departure from touring in 2022 but have as maintained a residency at the Venetian Theater in Las Vegas. A documentary, directed by Craig Johnson and executive produced by Fred Armisen, is also in growth.
Fred Schneider, vocalist for The B-52s, explained that while they intended to reduce strenuous travel, the opportunity to perform a limited number of shows with Devo was too appealing to decline.
Devo has separate shows scheduled through November, including an opening performance for My Chemical Romance on Aug. 29 at Soldier Field in Chicago. A documentary about Devo, directed by Chris Smith, premiered on Netflix on Aug. 19.
