The remarkable rise of teenage darts sensation Luke Littler is fueling a surge in youth participation in Devon. Inspired by Littler’s performance at the PDC World Championship, young players are flocking to darts academies, hoping to emulate his success in the sport of darts.
Identical twins harry and Alfie,from Devon,are among those chasing their dreams of becoming professional darts players. They train at Teignbridge darts Academy in Newton Abbot, one of seven darts clubs established in the county this year. The academy has reportedly tripled in size over the past year, now coaching 60 children between 6 and 18.
Harry said seeing Littler compete inspired him to take up the sport. “I saw [Littler] in the world championships and then decided to get a dartboard and then took it up from there,” he said, adding that he enjoys the people he meets and how much he enjoys the game. “It’s been pretty much life-changing I’d say.”
“I never really thought of playing darts before, and then I saw him on TV and thought, ‘Why not?'”
Jon Bush, chairman of Teignbridge Darts Academy, expressed his pride in the academy’s growth and the enthusiasm of the young players. Lucas Hill, the academy’s secretary, added that he finds joy in helping young players pursue opportunities he lacked as a child.
