BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Philosophers Alejandro G. Vigo and Ramón Rodríguez will engage in a dialogue concerning the concept of diagnosis and the faculty of judgment, drawing upon Wolfgang Wieland’s research into medicine as a practical science. The discussion will explore the idea that while medicine relies heavily on theoretical sciences, it remains fundamentally a practical discipline. Its aim is to guide actions rather than solely justify theoretical propositions. Though, this practical nature does not permit arbitrary alterations to its core concepts.
A central question to be addressed is the nature of diagnosis itself: Should diagnoses be discovered and deduced, or should they be established through agreed-upon conventions and rules governing the term’s usage?
