Diego Sanchez Arrested for alleged Gunfire incident
Former UFC fighter Diego Sanchez has been arrested following an incident where he allegedly fired a gun into the air. The arrest occurred after police responded to a crash, and Sanchez, a passenger in a passing vehicle, was observed leaning out of the window and discharging a firearm.
Details of the Incident
According to reports,police were called to the scene of a crash. While at the location, they observed Sanchez, who was a passenger in a vehicle driving by, lean out of the window and fire a shot into the air. Officers pursued the vehicle and later arrested Sanchez.During questioning, Sanchez reportedly denied firing the weapon but admitted that a gun was present in the vehicle. The driver of the car,who is not facing any charges,corroborated the police account,stating that Sanchez fired the gun from the passenger seat. Witnesses also noted that Sanchez appeared to be laughing while speaking with authorities.
Personal Struggles and UFC Career
Sanchez’s representative, Ricky Kottenstette, revealed to MMA Fighting that the former ”Ultimate Fighter” winner has been grappling with substance abuse issues in recent years.He has reportedly undergone rehabilitation multiple times and is seeking further treatment to address his ongoing struggles.
At his career’s zenith, Sanchez was recognized as one of the UFC’s top fighters. His remarkable run included a title shot against B.J. Penn in 2009. Although he did not win the championship that night, Sanchez remained a prominent figure in the UFC for 15 years, competing across various weight divisions.
His final UFC appearance was in 2020, where he lost a decision to Jake Matthews. Following his departure from the UFC, Sanchez continued his fighting career, including a single bout in BKFC against boxer Austin Trout.
