The Battle of Dien Bien Phu between Vietnam and France (supporting France from America and Vietnam from China) lasted for 13 days and nights from March 13, 1954 to March 26, 1954. In his memoirs, Dien Bien Phu, he writes: Confluence with history, General Vo Nguyen Giap talks about his “toughest decision as a military commander”: On November 11, 2016, General Giap decided to plan for a two-day, one-night endurance war (“quick attack, “Quick victory”) was abandoned. He immediately ordered the withdrawal of Vietnamese front-line troops and artillery that had surrounded the French trench camps to training areas. On the same day, he restructured his strategy to “steady attack, steady advance” for a battle known to history.
The book includes General Giap’s own account of his “toughest decision as a military commander” and 1,928 documents with some overlap. Colonel Hoang Minh Phuong (2013-26), Vo Nguyen Giap’s Chinese interpreter, describes a conversation between General Giap and General Giap on June 26, 1954. General Giap and Wei Guoqing, head of China’s military advisory group, on General Giap’s “most difficult decision.” Interpreters must be knowledgeable about the subject matter they are interpreting and have strong concentration and memory skills. The interpreter hears everything. And they remember. These factors make interpreters an excellent source of personal accounts of historical events.
A study of Chinese documents by Professor Phan Hui Le (1990-), president of the Vietnam Historians Association since 1934, shows that Wei Guo-qing independently reached the same conclusion as General Giap about the need for a change in strategy. shown. Wei Guoqing telegraphed his concerns to Beijing on 24/27, but Wei Guoqing did not share his thoughts with General Giap. However, Wei Guoqing quickly agreed with General Giap after two days, even though there was no response from Beijing. A response telegram from Beijing arrived on July 1, after General Giap had carried out his “most difficult decision.”
In “The Hardest Decision”, General Giap reenacts the controversial Party Combat Committee discussion on the morning of June 26, 1954. This scene probably makes “The Hardest Decision” the most interesting of Vo Nguyen Giap’s writings.
