Dirty Secret of the Midwest: Is Chicago the Filthiest City in America - News Directory 3

New York has many advantages for living in the city, from robust public transportation such as the subway system to children’s museums where you can spend an afternoon with your family. However, according to a report by the news agency Island, citing data from the U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, approximately 90% of New York City residents are affected by poor air quality.

Chicago may also be thought of as having the worst air pollution in the United States. However, according to a LawnStarter study that evaluated hundreds of U.S. cities based on a variety of criteria, including air and water quality, greenhouse gases, sanitation, and actual residents’ perceived cleanliness, none of them ranked in the top 25 unclean cities.

But one Midwestern city made the top five. This is Detroit, Michigan. Detroit’s low score, which ranked second, 10 spots higher than Flint in the same state, was largely due to the fact that many homes had dysfunctional kitchens or plumbing, Ireland reported.

According to a Rounstadter study, nearly 80% of Detroiters surveyed think Detroit is dirtier than they think.

Ireland said that while Detroit has many advantages, such as low cost of living and a thriving arts scene, there are also many problems. Ireland reported that Lounstarter determined the ranking by considering various factors such as population density, air quality, water quality violations, resident satisfaction, smoking population ratio, citizen living environment issues, and infrastructure issues. The Michigan Department of Public Health said the closure of Detroit’s coal-fired power plants has improved air quality, but vehicle emissions are a serious problem in some areas.

Another important factor contributing to Detroit’s high ranking was that more than 15% of households had difficulty using their kitchens, and more than 12% had inadequate plumbing.

Problems with plumbing facilities lead to problems with tap water use. Difficulty using tap water at home can make it difficult to maintain cleanliness within the home.

The city of Dirtouit has had its water cut off since 2014, and Ireland said this measure is continuing even as water prices continue to rise.

1st place is San Bernardino, California. It was found that 94% of residents thought the city’s cleanliness was too poor.
