Through an initiative to reform the Political Constitution, the legislators of the tricolor propose that the transformation of the National Search Commission be into an autonomous body, which It would be an opportunity to improve its performance by strengthening search protocols, collaboration with civil society organizations and international cooperation to address this challenge in a comprehensive manner.

In their initiative, which will be presented within the Permanent Commission, the PRI senators point out that The proposed modification would imply granting it independence in its operation and decision-making.

“This would include the election of his presidency in a transparent and plural manner, as well as a budget allocation that avoids political influence in his work,” they emphasize.

They point out that the objective of the National Search Commission, which currently depends on the Ministry of the Interior, is to coordinate, together with the various federal and state authorities, search actions with the purpose of finding the whereabouts of missing persons, has various obligations and powers both in the General Law on Disappearances and in the Approved Search Protocol.

They specify that autonomy in the search for missing persons in our country would allow a more efficient and effective search by eliminating bureaucratic and political obstacles; data on missing persons and the actions taken would be more transparent, which would generate trust in society and prevent political manipulation of information; would ensure that search policies are focused on the needs of victims and not political interests; and would contribute to the delivery of justice by providing accurate and reliable information for investigations and judicial processes.

With the reforms to articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution regarding forced disappearance and location of victims, The State will guarantee the right of every person to be searched, through search, location and identification actions undertaken by the National Search Commission.
