Discovery Bay Egg Hunting Carnival Cancelled: Parents Slam No-Refund Policy

Parents and families have expressed frustration after the annual Discovery Bay Easter Egg Hunt on the Beach & Carnival was cancelled on April 4, 2026, due to severe weather conditions.

Organizers confirmed that no refunds or rescheduled sessions would be provided for the cancelled event, citing the terms and conditions of the activity. This decision has led to public criticism from parents who viewed the lack of refunds as unreasonable.

Event Details and Scope

The Discovery Bay Easter Egg Hunt on the Beach & Carnival 2026 was scheduled to take place on April 3 and April 4, 2026, from 10:30 to 18:30. The event targeted children aged 3 to 10, who were invited to search for colorful Easter eggs hidden at Tai Pak Beach.

The 19th edition of this tradition featured more than 50,000 prizes and special grand prizes with a total value exceeding $1 million. Participants were required to purchase specific passes to enter the hunt.

Registration for the event was split into two phases. Early bird registration for Discovery Bay residents ran from February 25 to March 2, with administration fees set at HK$268 for an Egg Hunt Pass and HK$368 for an Egg Hunt Combo Pass. Public registration opened on March 4, with the Egg Hunt Pass priced at HK$298 and the Combo Pass at HK$398 per child.

An Egg Hunt Pass typically included a welcome goodies bag containing souvenirs and a shovel set, as well as one complimentary session of the Easter Egg Hunt Game.

Carnival Activities and Amenities

Beyond the beach activities, the event included several other attractions across Discovery Bay:

• The DB Plaza Inflatable Funland, which featured giant bouncy castles and inflatable game booths for pass holders, was scheduled to run through April 6.
• Giant Easter egg displays were set up at the North Plaza for family photography.
• Free collage and art studio activities were available at the Toscana Sales Gallery.
• The Egg Hunt Combo Pass provided a $100 Discovery Bay cash voucher for use at local international and alfresco restaurants.

To facilitate attendance, organizers provided transportation tips recommending the ferry as the fastest route from the city center. A free shuttle bus service from Sunny Bay to DB Plaza was also offered for families holding valid Egg Hunt Passes, operating on a first-come, first-served basis.

Controversy Over Cancellation

The cancellation on April 4 sparked anger among parents due to the organizers’ refusal to issue refunds. While some forms of compensation, such as ferry tickets, were reportedly issued, these measures were deemed insufficient by affected families.
