Streaming services are becoming increasingly essential for home entertainment, but that convenience is coming at a higher cost. Both HBO Max and Disney+ have recently announced price increases, impacting both regular subscribers and families. Let’s break down what’s changing and what it means for your wallet.

HBO Max Price Adjustments

HBO Max is turning up the heat on its subscription prices. Regular users will see an increase from NOK 129 to NOK 139. The family subscription isn’t spared either, jumping by 20 kroner – a 10 percent rise. This comes after HBO Max revamped its subscription structure earlier this year. Many customers with the older “Life out” discount are now being encouraged to upgrade to a more expensive premium subscription to continue enjoying their favorite content.you can find more details about these changes here.

Disney+ Follows suit with Price Hike

Disney+ is now joining the trend, announcing an increase in its annual subscription fee from NOK 1390, effective September 15th. This represents a significant jump from last year’s NOK 1190 and a ample 56 percent increase over the NOK 890 price tag from two years ago.

Disney explains the increase by stating, “We do this because we want to give you the very best entertainment, from new originals you can’t find anywhere else, to the latest big films.”

However, Disney+ has also introduced new subscription options to cater to different budgets. They now offer a cheaper,ad-supported plan at NOK 59 per month. For those who prefer an ad-free experience, there’s a standard option with slightly lower image and sound quality available for just under NOK 1000 annually.

What Does This Mean for You?

These price increases across major streaming platforms signal a shift in the industry. The era of incredibly affordable streaming may be waning as companies seek to recoup investment in original content and navigate a more competitive landscape.

Here’s a quick recap:

HBO max: Regular subscription up to NOK 139, Family subscription up by 10%.
Disney+: Annual subscription now NOK 1390 (a 56% increase over two years). Disney+ Options: New ad-supported plan at NOK 59/month, standard ad-free plan under NOK 1000/year.

It’s a good time to evaluate your streaming habits and consider which services offer the best value for you*.Exploring different subscription tiers, and potentially rotating services based on the content you want to watch, could help you manage these rising costs.
