Choosing between the iPhone 17e and the standard iPhone 17 in October 2026 comes down to a price difference and whether buyers prioritize high-end display and camera capabilities over entry-level affordability, while the iPhone 17e is positioned as an entry-level model starting with 256 GB storage capacity.

iPhone 17 and 17e Differ in Screen Size and Refresh Rates

The most prominent physical differences lie in the screen architecture of the two devices. According to Qoo Media, the standard iPhone 17 features a 6.3-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display with a resolution of 1206 x 2622 pixels, a density of 460 ppi, HDR10 support, Dolby Vision, and adaptive ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz. In contrast, Qoo Media notes that the iPhone 17e uses a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen with 1170 x 2532 pixels, a 60Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 814 nits, and a classic notch design. Both handsets feature Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, an aluminium frame, and a glass back panel. iPhone 17e has dimensions of approximately 146.7 × 71.5 × 7.8 mm with a weight of 169 grams, whereas the iPhone 17 measures 149.6 × 71.5 × 8.0 mm with a weight of 177 grams.

iPhone 17 Features More Cameras than the 17e

Photography options diverge significantly across the two models. Qoo Media details that the standard iPhone 17 carries a dual rear camera system with a 48MP main sensor and an ultrawide sensor, alongside an 18MP front-facing camera with a multi-aspect sensor and a physical Camera Control button. The iPhone 17e relies on a single 48MP rear Fusion camera and a 12MP front camera, omitting both the ultrawide lens and the Camera Control button, as outlined by Qoo Media. Both devices are powered by the Apple A19 processor built on a 3-nanometer process with a six-core CPU, but Qoo Media reports that the iPhone 17 features a five-core GPU while the iPhone 17e includes a four-core GPU. This graphical difference reflects in benchmark tests, where the iPhone 17 scores 2,109,773 points and the iPhone 17e obtains 2,035,687 points in AnTuTu 10, while 3DMark Wild Life scores reach 5,134 points and 4,226 points respectively, with the iPhone 17 logging higher scores than the iPhone 17e.

iPhone 17 Earns Editors Choice Among Apple Lineup

The current 2026 smartphone market encompasses a wide range of Apple offerings spanning budget options to flagship tiers. Bloomberg Technoz reports that Apple currently maintains six different iPhone models in its active sales lineup, stretching from the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17e up to the flagship iPhone 18 Pro Max. Review data cited by Bloomberg Technoz from PCMag indicates that the standard iPhone 17 secured an Editors’ Choice award and stands out as the optimal choice for most regular users, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max captured a Lab Award for longest battery life within the premium tier.
