Disney+ to Stream UEFA Women’s Champions League Matches
Updated May 28, 2025
Disney+ is expanding its sports streaming offerings by securing the rights to the UEFA Women’s Champions League across Europe. Starting with the 2025/26 season, the five-year deal ensures that Disney+ will stream all 75 matches live through the 2029/30 season.
this move positions Disney+ to capitalize on the growing popularity of women’s football. The company aims to tap into an emerging market and possibly introduce the sport to a younger audience, aligning with its history of producing content for young girls.
The acquisition reflects a broader trend of streaming services investing in live sports. Amazon Prime Video has been showing live sports for years, including Premier League and Champions League football, and NFL’s Thursday Night Football. Apple TV+ has streamed MLB, and Netflix has streamed American Football. Now,Disney+ enters the arena with live football rights.
While this deal doesn’t signal an immediate challenge to Sky’s dominance in Premier League football in the UK, it could serve as a test case for future expansion into men’s sports.
The shift towards sports streaming continues as conventional broadcast methods decline. Sky is moving towards internet-based services with Sky Glass TV and Sky Stream, while platforms like Freely, Samsung TV Plus, and LG Channels gain traction.
What’s next
With the UEFA women’s Champions League secured, Disney+ is poised to become a key player in the sports streaming landscape, especially for women’s football. The move could encourage further investment in women’s sports and attract a broader audience to the platform.
