DJI, the world’s leading drone manufacturer, is facing significant hurdles importing its products into the United States, leading to widespread stock shortages. Now, the company is taking a further step by formally skipping the US market for its latest non-drone product: the 8K Osmo 360 camera. DJI has confirmed to The Verge that it’s unclear if this innovative camera will ever be officially stocked in the US.
A Pattern of US Market Challenges
This move follows a series of import difficulties that have plagued DJI’s drone sales in the US, leaving manny popular models out of stock. The situation has become so pronounced that “many shelves have gone bare,” impacting consumers’ ability to purchase even their most sought-after products.
Osmo 360 Camera: A US Market Omission
The 8K Osmo 360 camera, priced at $549.99, and its “Adventure Combo” variant at $699.99, are already available for pre-order through major retailers like B&H and Adorama. These retailers are also offering an extensive range of accessories for the new camera.
For those eager to get their hands on the Osmo 360, it might be worth trying to contact Adorama directly. In the past, some models that weren’t yet listed on the website were available for phone orders if they were in stock.
Unanswered Questions and Future Uncertainty
DJI has a history of not providing clear explanations for its market decisions. Previously, the company did not clarify why the Mavic 4 Pro had a limited release in the US or whether warranties would be honored for those sales. When asked about the decision to bypass an official US launch for the Osmo 360, a DJI spokesperson offered a similarly vague response.”There are multiple reasons behind why the Osmo 360 will not be available through DJI officially in the U.S. We do not have a timeline on when or if this will be available, but we will keep you posted if there are any updates,” Regina Lin,a DJI spokesperson, told The Verge.
Mavic 4 pro: A Glimmer of Hope?
Meanwhile, the Mavic 4 Pro drone, which also experienced a limited release, is listed as “temporarily on backorder” or “temporarily out of stock” by both Adorama and B&H. However, Adorama indicates that a shipment is expected in September, offering a potential, albeit uncertain, path for consumers to acquire the drone.
The continued import issues and the decision to skip the US launch for the Osmo 360 camera raise questions about DJI’s future strategy in the American market. As consumers, we’re left waiting for clearer communication and hoping for a resolution to these ongoing supply chain and distribution challenges.
