DJI Unveils the DJI Air 3: Advanced Camera Systems for Non-Professional Drones

DJI has introduced advanced camera systems to its non-professional drone lineup, with the launch of the Air 3. Acting as the successor to the popular Air 2S, this drone has gained recognition for being the drone that introduced the masses to a 1-inch sensor. The Air 3 comes equipped with dual cameras, offering both wide and telephoto functionalities.

While both sensors on the DJI Air 3 are 48MP 1/1.3-inch sensors, slightly smaller than the 20MP 1-inch sensor, the main camera stands out with its brighter f/1.7 lens (compared to the Air 2S’ 22mm f/2.8 lens) and quad-Bayer image processing, resulting in 12MP images by default. However, users still have the option to capture images at the full 48MP resolution.

With regards to video recording capabilities, the DJI Air 3 offers impressive specifications. It supports recording up to 10-bit Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), features a new D-Log M profile, and is capable of recording 4K footage up to 100fps without cropping.

The DJI Air 3 is equipped with omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, allowing it to detect and avoid obstacles in all directions, including backward, forward, sideways, and up and down. This obstacle avoidance system now functions even in object tracking mode. Additionally, the drone features DJI’s latest OcuSync 4.0 technology, offering a theoretical transmission distance of up to 20km.

One notable improvement of the DJI Air 3 is its larger 4,241mAh battery, which provides an impressive flight time of up to 46 minutes. This is a significant enhancement compared to the Air 2S.

The DJI Air 3 is now available for purchase, starting at a price of 34,990 baht in Thailand. The standard package includes a DJI RC-N2 controller, while the Fly More Combo package offers two additional batteries along with the same controller, priced at 42,490 baht. For those seeking an even more premium experience, the Fly More Combo Premium package includes two extra batteries and a DJI RC 2 remote with a built-in 5.5-inch 1080p 700-nit display.
