United WayS Computers4Kids Program Bridges the Digital Divide

Cheyenne, Wyoming – This holiday season, United Way of laramie County is asking residents to spread cheer by donating their old computers. The nonprofit’s Computers4Kids program refurbishes donated technology and provides it to local children in need, ensuring they have the tools to learn, grow, and thrive.

“Replacing your old computer equipment? Donate it to our Computers4Kids program!” United Way urges in a recent social media post. “They refurbish your used technology and provide it to local kids who need it most—helping them learn, grow, and thrive.”

In today’s digital age, computers are essential for educational success. United Way recognizes this and is encouraging Cheyenne residents to invest in the next generation by donating their gently used devices.

“Got that new computer for Christmas?” the post asks. “We would love to have your old one. Help us ensure all kids have access to the tools they need.”

The Computers4Kids program isn’t just for children. Families in need can also receive a refurbished computer, helping bridge the digital divide and empower entire households.

United Way is accepting all types of computers, including laptops and desktops, and also accessories like keyboards, monitors, mice, and cords.

“Your old tech could be the start of a bright future for a child in our community!” the organization emphasizes.

Giving Back, One Computer at a Time

Emily scrolled through her Facebook feed, stopping at a post from United Way of Laramie County. “Hey Sarah,” she said, turning to her freind. “Did you see this post about donating old computers?”

Sarah shook her head. “No, what’s it about?”

“they’re collecting old computers, laptops, even accessories, to give to kids in need,” Emily explained. “It’s called the Computers4Kids program.”

“Wow, that’s amazing!” Sarah exclaimed. “Why would someone donate their old computer though?”

Emily thought for a moment. “Well, think about it. Most of us upgrade our computers every few years, right? The old ones still work, but we don’t use them anymore. Those computers can realy make a difference for families who can’t afford them. They said in the post that having access to a computer is crucial for kids these days for their education.”

Sarah nodded. “That’s so true! My niece is in elementary school and they use computers for pretty much everything these days. I had no idea there were kids who didn’t have access to one.”

“Me neither!” Emily agreed. “Apparently, United Way refurbishes the donated computers, so they’re good as new when they give them out.”

“That’s fantastic!” Sarah said. “Are they taking any kind of computer?”

“They said they accept laptops and desktops, and even things like keyboards, mice, and monitors,” Emily replied. “It sounds like anything you wouldn’t use anymore could be helpful.”

“I have a spare desktop collecting dust in the attic,” Sarah said. “I’m definately going to donate it! Where do I drop it off?”

“Check their website,unitedwayoflaramiecounty.org,” Emily suggested. “They probably have all the details there about drop-off locations and what they accept. It’s a great way to give back and make sure every kid has the opportunity to succeed.”
