Child Abuse Case: Nanny and Mother Found Guilty
A disturbing case of child abuse has come to light in Bahrain, resulting in the death of a 4-year-old child. The child’s nanny, a 25-year-old Asian woman, was found guilty of attacking the child’s safety by pinning him down and immersing him in hot water in a bathtub. The child’s mother, a 28-year-old woman, was also found guilty of neglecting her children and relying on prostitution to support her lifestyle.
The Incident
On March 23, 2024, the nanny was left in charge of the two children while their mother was away. The nanny placed the children in the bathtub and turned on the water at a moderate temperature. However, she left the bathroom for approximately 20 minutes to prepare the dressing room. When she returned, she heard the sound of screaming coming from the bathroom and found that one of the children had turned on the hot water.
The Aftermath
The child was taken to the hospital, where he was found to have suffered severe injuries. Despite medical treatment, the child passed away on September 19, 2024, due to complications from his injuries.
The Verdict
The Public Prosecution convicted the nanny of attacking the child’s safety, causing him permanent disability and exposing him to abuse. The mother was found guilty of neglecting her children and relying on prostitution to support her lifestyle. Both defendants were also found guilty of not renewing their legal residence permits.
The Court’s Ruling
The First High Criminal Court instructed the Public Prosecution to submit a supplementary forensic report regarding the victim’s injuries and determining the percentage of permanent disability. The report found that the child’s injuries were severe and resulted in permanent disability. However, due to the stability of the child’s health condition, it was impossible to determine the exact percentage of permanent disability.
The Defendants’ Testimony
The nanny admitted to the Public Prosecution that she had placed the children in the bathtub and turned on the water at a moderate temperature. She claimed that she had left the bathroom for a short period and returned to find the child screaming. The mother admitted to relying on prostitution to support her lifestyle and neglecting her children.
The Sentence
The court sentenced the nanny and the mother to imprisonment for their roles in the child’s death. The sentence serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from abuse and neglect.
