The moment the Ukrainian military’s offensive first-person view (FPV) drone attacked a mobile Russian military vehicle was captured. FPV drones allow soldiers to take first-person control while viewing videos taken by the drone in real time. It was originally developed for racing, but was used with explosives attached to it in the game in Ukraine.

The X account ‘Ukrainian Front’, which shares information about the Ukraine war, posted a 36-second video on the 3rd (local time). The author wrote a short description of this video, saying, “Ukrainian FPV suicide drone attacks Russian military Chinese all-terrain vehicle DesertCross 1000-3.”

In the video, a Ukrainian drone appeared right above a Russian military vehicle. The drone swooped towards the vehicle and crashed into the front of the vehicle. Due to the impact, red flames erupted and exploded, and at the same time, a ‘thud’ explosion sound rang out. There was also footage of the Russian soldier on board the vehicle panicking and running away from the vehicle.

The video was filmed from the point of view of the attacked Russian army. However, the account did not reveal the route by which this video was obtained, the time of filming, or the location. Russian soldiers may have been captured by the Ukrainian army after the video was filmed.

Meanwhile, the Russian military bought and deployed the Desert Cross 1000-3 last year. It was also revealed through media reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov-on-Don, a city near the Ukrainian border, with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in November last year and inspected Desert Cross 1000 -3.

At the time, the British Financial Times (FT) and others reported that the Russian military had deployed 537 basic models of this vehicle and planned to purchase an additional 1,500 optional models. The base model of the vehicle is said to be priced at 1.58 million rubles (about 23 million won) per unit, while the price of the optional model is known to be 2.1 million rubles (about 30.5 million won).

The price of one FPV drone is about $400 (about 530,000 won). Given this, the FPV drone beat Russian military vehicles that were at least 43 times and up to 57 times more expensive.
