Dramatic Rescue: Fishing Boat Sinks Off Coast of Seogwipo, Jeju Island

A fishing boat returning from fishing off the coast of Seogwipo on Jeju Island sank.

One crew member was rescued by another fishing vessel, but the captain and another crew member are still missing.

A fishing boat arrived at the port late at night.

A Coast Guard rescuer helps the man and gets him out of the boat.

As soon as the man sets foot on the ground, he is picked up by someone and then taken on a stretcher to the hospital.

An Indonesian sailor who was dramatically rescued after falling overboard when a fishing boat sank.

Around 9:50 last night.

A report was received that a 4.1-ton boat with three people on board, including the captain and crew, was sinking in the sea 18 km southeast of Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo-si.

Another fishing vessel nearby also received an emergency rescue request and arrived at the scene 50 minutes later, but the boat had already sunk and only one crew member was found and rescued.

“There was only one person floating, a foreigner. He was in and out of the water. He didn’t even have time to open his life jacket. I guess the boat just capsized.”

The rescued sailor is said to be suffering from hypothermia, but his life is not in danger.

The Coast Guard and Navy sent helicopters and ships to the crash area to search for the missing Korean captain and an Indonesian sailor, but they have not yet been found.

Seogwipo City and fishing groups also set up an accident recovery operation room in Seongsan Port and began providing search support.

“There are 16 ships at sea, including Coast Guard, fishing guide ships and civilian ships searching…”

At the time there was no wind warning in the area of ​​the accident, there were winds of around 9 meters per second and waves up to 1.5 meters high.

The Coast Guard is investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, believing that the vessel, which was returning from fishing, was hit by waves coming from the right and capsized to the left.
