Dozens Killed in Drone Attack on Sudanese Town of Kalogi
A recent drone strike targeting the army-held town of Kalogi in Sudan’s South Kordofan state resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians, including children, on Thursday, December 5, 2025. The attack deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure, compounding the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Triple Strike on Vulnerable Sites
According to Essam al-Din al-Sayed, head of the Kalogi administrative unit, the attack unfolded in three distinct phases. The initial strike hit a local kindergarten, followed by an attack on a hospital, and a third strike occurred as first responders attempted to rescue children from the wreckage. Al-sayed communicated this data using a Starlink satellite internet connection, highlighting the challenges of maintaining interaction in the conflict zone.
Paramilitary Groups Blamed
Responsibility for the assault has been attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North faction (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu. The SPLM-N controls critically important territory within South Kordofan and parts of Blue Nile state, and has been involved in ongoing conflict with the Sudanese army. This attack underscores the escalating violence and disregard for civilian lives in the ongoing Sudanese conflict.
The targeting of medical facilities and schools represents a grave violation of international humanitarian law. These actions further exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in South Kordofan, where access to essential services is severely limited. The incident highlights the urgent need for increased international pressure to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian access.
