Dublin, Ireland – Four activists, part of a “rainbow coalition group” advocating for Palestine, were arrested and brought to Pearse Street Garda station on Thursday afternoon. The arrests occurred while the group was protesting outside the Department of Justice, aiming to deliver a letter to ministers.
Demands for Dáil Recall and Gaza Aid
According to Sara White, a 39-year-old protester from Blackrock, the group’s intention was to “deliver a letter to the Ministers demanding [the] recalling of the Dáil so they could put pressure to open the borders to Gaza and let aid in.”
The activists had gathered with posters and were making noise, attempting to gain the attention of officials to hand-deliver their letter. “We asked repeatedly to speak and hand-deliver our letter and were refused,” Ms. White stated.
Arrests and Release
The group remained at the Department of Justice for approximately 30 to 40 minutes before gardaí arrived. Ms. White indicated that the activists had been warned they were trespassing. The four individuals were subsequently taken to pearse Street Garda station and released around 6:30 pm without being questioned.
Support from Activist Groups
The activist group mothers Against Genocide shared a statement on social media on Thursday afternoon, calling for the release of the four individuals. The statement confirmed that one of their own members was among those arrested.
