Duquesne Bowling Team Concludes Fall Season at Garden State Classic
Duquesne University’s bowling team finished eighth out of 20 teams at the Garden State Classic held at Howell Lanes in Howell, N.J. They concluded the tournament with a record of 9-4, bringing their overall season record to 32-19 (.627).
Baker Play Success
The Dukes started strong in Baker play, achieving a perfect 5-0 record on the first day. They defeated Molloy 918-789 and followed with wins over Adelphi (969-786), Coppin State (952-799), Wilmington (955-871), and Dominican (930-926). In the match against Dominican, they turned around a deficit by winning the final game 191-144.
Traditional Play Performance
On Saturday, Duquesne had a 3-2 record in traditional play. They defeated Bryant (979-895) and Holy Family (1,028-719) but lost to No. 3 Youngstown State (954-938) and Monmouth (988-881). The day ended with a victory over No. 1 Jacksonville State (1,013-946). In the match against Jacksonville, four players scored over 200, with Shannon Small leading with a score of 215.
Individual Highlights
Shannon Small had an impressive tournament, finishing third overall with 1,084 total pins and an average of 216.80, earning all-tournament honors. Madison Doseck from Youngstown State took the individual crown with 1,133 pins. Small’s consistent performance solidifies her position in the program’s history with multiple top-five finishes.
Championship Round Matches
On the final day, the Dukes lost to No. 12 Mount St. Mary’s in a best-of-seven series, 4.5-2.5. They rebounded by sweeping No. 23 Delaware State 4-0 but finished with a 4-2 loss to No. 6 North Carolina A&T.
Tournament Outcome
Youngstown State emerged as the tournament champion with a 12-1 record and a total of 13,541 pins. The Dukes achieved an average score of 192.3, totaling 12,881 pins across 67 games.

Duquesne will return to compete in the Northeast Classic, scheduled for January 17-19, at Bowlerama in New Castle, Delaware.
