Latvian Filmmaker Dzintra Geka Documents Siberian Deportations
Latvian film director Dzintra Geka dedicated a ample portion of her career to documenting the impact of Soviet-era deportations to Siberia, drawing from her personal experience and family history. Between 2001 and 2023, Geka created 37 documentary films focused on the consequences of these deportations, according to Latvian Public Broadcasting (Latvijas Sabiedriskie Mediji).
Geka’s work centers on the experiences of those affected by the deportations, preserving their stories and shedding light on a painful period in Latvian history.
