Eagles Defeat Ravens in Defensive Battle
Eagles Soar Past Ravens Despite Tucker’s Struggles
Philadelphia Eagles 24, Baltimore Ravens 19
The Philadelphia Eagles extended their winning streak to eight games with a hard-fought 24-19 victory over the Baltimore ravens on Sunday.
While the highly anticipated matchup between Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry didn’t quite live up to the hype, the Eagles’ stifling defense proved to be the difference-maker, largely containing Lamar Jackson and capitalizing on a rare off day from Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.
Barkley finished with 107 rushing yards, including a crucial 25-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter that put the Eagles ahead 21-12.Henry,meanwhile,managed 82 rushing yards and added 29 receiving yards on three catches.
“It’s not basketball, you know? It’s not like I’m going out there and I gotta tackle Derrick Henry,” Barkley said with a laugh. ”Honestly, I don’t even know if I want to tackle Derrick Henry.”
The ravens, who fell to 8-5 and lost ground to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC north, struggled to find their rhythm offensively.
Tucker, widely considered one of the greatest kickers of all time, had a nightmare game, missing two field goal attempts and an extra point.
“We just gotta rally around him,” Ravens safety Ar’Darius Washington said of Tucker. “We know he’s a great kicker. He’s probably the best of all time. No matter what he’s going through,we’re gonna be there for him. He’s our guy.”
Despite holding a 9-0 lead early in the game, the Ravens couldn’t capitalize on their early momentum.
The Eagles, led by quarterback Jalen hurts, responded with two touchdowns in the second quarter, a 17-yard pass to Dallas Goedert and a one-yard rushing touchdown by Hurts himself.
Jackson, who entered the game with a 23-2 record as a starter against NFC opponents, finished with 237 passing yards and 79 rushing yards. He connected with tight end Isaiah Likely for an 11-yard touchdown pass with three seconds remaining, but it was too little, too late.
The game pitted the ravens’ explosive offense, ranked first in the NFL, against the Eagles’ dominant defense, wich leads the league in several key categories.
The Eagles’ defense proved up to the task, limiting Jackson and the Ravens’ attack throughout the game.
“We never really got into a rhythm,” ravens head coach John Harbaugh said. “In the second half, we just weren’t able to finish [our drives].”
The Eagles will look to extend their winning streak next week, while the Ravens will try to bounce back and regain their footing in the AFC North race.
