Ribut Eko Suyatno,deputy for SAR operations and preparedness at Basarnas,passed the operational baton to Didit Arie Ristandy,the head of the agency’s SAR operations and preparedness in Surabaya. The roll-on/roll-off ferry, KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, departed from Ketapang port in Banyuwangi, East java, at approximately 10:56 p.m. local time on July 2, 2025. The vessel was carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles when it embarked on its journey to Gilimanuk Port in Bali.Tragically, the ferry sank en route around 11:35 p.m. local time. the submerged wreckage of the vessel was later discovered on the seabed of the bali Strait, resting at a depth of approximately 50 meters.
As of Tuesday evening, the official death toll from the ferry sinking stood at 19, with 30 individuals having survived the harrowing ordeal.
