EC permission to celebrate Book Festival

The Election Commission (EC) has given permission to celebrate the Book Festival by distributing textbooks on January 1.

On Sunday (December 24), the deputy secretary of EC’s election management branch said. Atiyar has sent a letter in this regard to the Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education.

As mentioned in the letter, the Election Commission has agreed to organize ‘Book Festival’ as a routine work of the government to officially distribute new textbooks across the country on January 1, the beginning of the academic year, as in other years.

The relevant departmental commissioners, district commissioners, upazila executive officers and all concerned at the field level will distribute books to the students of various educational institutions in their respective workplaces. If the Prime Minister also gives his kind consent to start the book distribution program officially, this program will continue.

However, the Election Commission disagreed with the organization of the program by the Ministry of Education at Suaganj Tafajjal Ahmed Chowdhury High School and College under Sadar Dakshin Upazila of Comilla District.

Parliamentary elections will be held on January 7. According to the Election Act, approval of the Election Commission is required to organize any event during polling. For this reason, if the Ministry of Education asked for permission, the EC agreed to the ‘Book Festival’ program taking into consideration the overall issue.
