A Beloved Husband, Father, and Friend
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Edgar Joseph Barrieau, of Fredericton, New Brunswick.Edgar passed away peacefully at Hospice House Fredericton on August 15th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 86 years old.
Born on April 12th, 1939, in st.Stephen, New Brunswick, Edgar was the son of the late Edward and Gertrude (Boucher) Barrieau. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, joyful living, and deep affection for his family and friends.
Family and Legacy
Edgar is survived by his devoted wife,dorothy,with whom he shared 17 wonderful years. He is also lovingly remembered by his sons, Tim (Marlita) and Terry (Brenda); his grandchildren, Ryan (Julie), Jamie (Ashley), and Mandi (Mack); and eight cherished great-grandchildren. his family extends to include Dorothy’s sons, Donald and Kenneth, and their families, all of whom held a special place in Edgar’s heart. Even his canine companion, Mindy, will miss his gentle presence.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn, his sister, Eileen, and his brother, Edmond.
A Dedicated Mechanic and Community Member
For much of his life, Edgar was a skilled and respected licensed mechanic. He began his career in the early 1960s at the Fina Garage in Marysville, and later contributed his expertise to Canadian Tire and J.Clark’s. He concluded his working life with many years of dedicated service to the City of fredericton, retiring in 2002.
A Life Filled with Music and Joy
Edgar possessed a vibrant spirit and a love for life. he found immense joy in Contry music, skillfully playing both the guitar and mandolin. He was a frequent attendee at parties and dances, always ready to sing and dance with enthusiasm. Even in retirement, Edgar remained active, tending to his garden with care and finding fulfillment in the beauty of flowers.
Gratitude for Compassionate Care
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Hospice House Fredericton for the remarkable care and compassion they provided to Edgar and his family during his final days. Their kindness and support were a true comfort.
Service Information
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Bishops Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Edgar’s life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 21st, also at Bishops Funeral Home, followed by a reception at Holy Family Church Hall (1500 Hanwell Road). All are welcome to attend and share their memories of Edgar.
