Egypt Participates in High-Level Meeting on Humanitarian Situation in Sudan

Egypt participated in a high-level meeting on the humanitarian situation in Sudan, titled “The Cost of Inaction in the Humanitarian Response in Sudan.” The meeting was held in cooperation with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Saudi Arabia, the United States, the European Union, and the African Union.

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for United Nations Affairs, Obaidah Al-Dandarawi, represented Egypt at the meeting. He highlighted Egypt’s efforts to host Sudanese refugees, facilitate access to peace and humanitarian assistance, and engage in negotiation channels. Al-Dandarawi emphasized the need to address the crisis, preserve state institutions, and increase funding levels for humanitarian assistance in Sudan and its neighboring countries.

Egypt’s statement called on the international community to share the burden of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, which has been ongoing since April 2023. The statement stressed the need for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire to save the lives of the Sudanese people and avoid regional conflict consequences.
