Egypt Participates ‌in High-Level Meeting on Humanitarian Situation ‍in Sudan

Egypt participated in a high-level meeting on ‍the humanitarian situation ‍in⁤ Sudan, titled “The Cost of Inaction in the Humanitarian Response in Sudan.” The meeting was held in cooperation with the‍ United Nations Office for ​the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Saudi ‌Arabia, the United States, the European Union, and the African Union.

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for United Nations Affairs,​ Obaidah Al-Dandarawi, represented⁤ Egypt at the meeting. He‌ highlighted Egypt’s efforts to host Sudanese refugees, facilitate access to peace and humanitarian assistance, and engage in negotiation channels.‌ Al-Dandarawi emphasized the need to address the crisis, preserve state⁤ institutions, ​and increase​ funding levels for humanitarian assistance in Sudan and its neighboring countries.

Egypt’s statement​ called on the international⁢ community to share the burden of the humanitarian⁤ crisis in Sudan,‍ which ⁢has been ongoing since April 2023. The statement stressed ​the need for an immediate‍ and sustainable ceasefire to save the⁢ lives​ of the Sudanese people and avoid regional conflict consequences.
