A man in his 70s who lost all his wealth to a real estate investment fraud visited the civil affairs bureau of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency overnight with a handwritten complaint.
The story was that the frontline police station did not accept the complaint, so even after being in three police stations for four months, they were not even able to file a complaint.

“If you invest 20 million won, I will give you 600,000 won every day for two months.”
Mr. Choi, 78, fell for this tempting offer and lost all his assets, worth more than 20 million won.
However, the interest only arrived for a week and the daily pay disappeared immediately.

“I honestly feel like I want to die three or four times a day without realizing it. I can’t tell anyone and I suffer so alone…”
Mr Choi went to the Bucheon Sosa police station near his home.
However, the police said: “It would be better to go to Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, where the scammers’ offices are located.”
As instructed, Mr. Choi filed a handwritten complaint at Gangnam Station in November last year.
But this time I was told to “withdraw the complaint and go to another police station”.

“‘It seems like the situation is dire and urgent, but the Gangnam Police Station has a huge backlog. It takes more than three months.’ Then: “Thank you very much.” “I said hello. You thought of me and told me that…”
Mr. Choi again filed a complaint with the Gangseo Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the scammer’s residence.
But here came an unexpected answer.
“If you have any objection to Gangnam Station’s decision to close the case, that is, if the case has been closed, you should go to Gangnam Station.”
Eventually, after moving to three police stations in four months, Mr. Choi had to return to Gangnam West.
When I checked, the reason for closing Gangnam Station was “complainant’s withdrawal of complaint.”
Based on this, Gangseo also closed the case.

Meanwhile, Mr. Park’s group has disappeared, excluding the Gangnam office.

When reporters initially asked whether the case had been handled appropriately, each of the three police stations responded that they had followed procedures for the convenience of the elderly complainant.
The Gangnam Police Station also said: “We will investigate the case quickly.”
