Elections 2024: Poniatowska and Taibo II could aspire to the Senate for Morena

This Wednesday, Morena is preparing the insaculation process to elect the multi-member candidates for the Senate of the Republic, through the raffle method, so that the election is random.

According to the list of 181 candidates, who met the requirements to be chosen, is the writer Elena Poniatowska, who in recent months has openly supported Claudia Sheinbaum towards the presidential election.

There is also Epigmenio Ibarra, who was part of the Morena team to build the 2024-2030 Nation Project, and is close to Sheinbaum and President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Also on the list is Paco Ignacio Taibo II, director of the Economic Culture Fund; José Ramiro “Pepín” López Obrador, brother of President López Obrador; Adán Augusto López, former Secretary of the Interior and former presidential candidate.

Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, currently spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic; Ricardo Sheffield, former head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco); and Américo Villarreal Santiago, son of the governor of Tamaulipas.

The person seeking a place in the Senate is Aleida Alavez Ruiz, pre-candidate for the Mayor of Iztapalapa, as well as Dolores Padierna, who is considered by relative majority for the Chamber of Deputies.

Bxido Jara, daughter of the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, also appears on the list; Sebastián Mendoza Ramírez, currently leader of Morena in Mexico City.

Gabriela Jiménez also appears, who is running for mayor of Azcapotzalco; former PRD member Beatriz Mojica Morgan; and former senator Jesusa Rodríguez, among others.
