The Togolese head of state Faure Gnassingbé congratulated this Tuesday his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Félix Tshisekedi on his re-election.

Mr. Tshisekedi was re-elected in the elections of December 20-21 with 73.34% of the votes, the National Electoral Commission (Céni) announced last Sunday in Kinshasa.

“Warm congratulations to my brother and friend, His Excellency Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, following his re-election to the supreme office of the DRC, following the results of the Electoral Commission,” greeted Faure Gnassingbé on X (former Twitter).

“I am convinced that this new mandate offers us the opportunity to continue strengthening the historic bonds of friendship, fraternity and cooperation between our countries,” he continued.

“I express ardent wishes for peace, stability and harmony for the brotherly people of the Congo,” added Faure Gnassingbé.

Félix Tshisekedi is followed by Moïse Katumbi, former governor of Katanga (south-east), who obtained 18.08% of the votes, by Martin Fayulu, unsuccessful candidate in the 2018 presidential election (5.33%), then by the former Prime Minister (2008-2012) Adolphe Muzito (1.12%), according to the results of the Ceni.

The other candidates (around twenty) including Dr Denis Mukwege – Nobel Peace Prize winner for his work with women victims of war rape – did not reach 1% of the votes. These opponents contest these results and demand the cancellation of the vote. FIN
