Embassy raid and its consequences

On the morning of this Saturday, April 6, 2024, I woke up to more than unexpected news, because I had never seen an embassy invaded in the way that Mexico did within Ecuadorian territory.

On a Friday night, armed police enter the Mexican embassy to forcibly remove a former vice president who was there because he had requested asylum. I’m not here to write news articles, but it’s worth understanding the fact alone and how it could end up impacting us, without saying that a fact like this violates several international agreements.

The idea of an embassy is to have a physical space in another country, which seems to me to mean that something like this is compared to a territorial invasion.

Mexico decided to break all diplomatic relations with Ecuador, after what happened, this shows us a quick attitude from the Mexican government, which cannot be tolerated by state or international bodies, which have already taken some actions, as well as the OAS – Organization of American Stateswho declared that he cannot tolerate an attitude like this within the continent.

I believe that much more than that, this attitude could shake the relations of regional countries, which could take some kind of action against the Ecuadorian government, separating it from continental integration, which could be a “handful” dish, for world hegemonic powers.

Therefore, no matter how much there is repudiation of the Latin American people and their respective countries, what cannot be, is the detachment of these countries and their integrations, as bearing with the lack of ties between us, could be the gap that needed to break with the regional power that we are slowly achieving.
