Emergency heating cost bomb… Reasons why US and UK pay attention to ‘heat pump’ : Dong-A Science

Although the low income class and the disadvantaged in Korea are suffering from heating cost bombs, developed countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom are paying attention to ‘heat pumps’ in order to stabilize household energy costs.

According to the BBC on the 26th (local time), the British government is implementing a subsidy policy to replace gas boilers with heat pumps for home heating systems in England and Wales. 5,000 pounds is supported (about 7.63 million won). The aim is to support the replacement of 90,000 heat pumps over three years, but 42,000 have already been replaced.

The BBC said that “the UK government’s green heating policy is slowly gaining momentum” and “will help stabilize household energy use and mitigate climate change.”

A heat pump is a heating device that transfers a low temperature heat source to a high temperature one by using the heat of heat or the heat of refrigerant condensation. It is also used as a cooling device because it can transfer high temperature heat sources to low temperature ones. It has several drive methods such as electric, geothermal, and hydrothermal.

Heat pumps are analyzed to be around three times better in terms of heating efficiency than gas boilers. In addition, unlike gas boilers, they do not emit greenhouse gases, so they attract attention as a device for responding to climate change.

The British government plans to carry out a project to support the replacement of 600,000 heat pumps by 2028. The United States also decided to invest $9 billion (about 11.916 trillion won) in a heat pump replacement support project in November last year to reduce household energy costs . This is to support the installation of a total of 500,000 heat pumps.

The White House said, “We will have all states install at least 12 million heat pumps by 2030.”
