Audiences had been questioning what would happen to both characters once Graham left the village taking the newborn, seemingly carrying out Joe Tate’s instructions to have the infant taken away. Joe refused to have anything to do with his newborn son as he remained consumed with grief for his late fiancée, Dawn Fletcher. Graham agreed to follow Joe’s instructions, but warned that it would be the last job he would carry out for him and that he would not be back.
Graham Foster Hides Baby Tate at a Secluded Cottage
In the closing moments of Monday’s episode, Kim Tate arrived at a secluded cottage that turned out to be Graham’s secret hideout. The episode also ended with the narration of a letter from Vinny, played by Bradley Johnson, to Nicola, played by Nicola Wheeler, in which he apologized for the tragic accident that claimed the life of her husband, Jimmy King, played by Nick Miles, who was killed off in August.
Sophie Roper Explains the Secret Intervention
Addressing the twist for the first time, Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper shared insight into the characters’ motivations. While it initially appeared that Graham and Kim had resigned themselves to the plan, they have secretly intervened to ensure the baby remains safe and hidden away.
Joe Tate Focuses on Revenge While Kim Seeks Redemption
While the infant’s whereabouts remain concealed from his father, Joe—portrayed by Ned Porteous—it remains uncertain how he will respond upon discovering that Graham ignored his directives to place the baby up for adoption. Sophie Roper noted, Desperate for Joe not to come to regret his decision, Kim’s determined to find a way to reunite father and son.
However, Joe shows no signs of regretting his decision to give his son away as he remains consumed by grief over losing Dawn. The Home Farm businessman is currently laser-focused on taking revenge against those he blames for Dawn’s demise, and he will soon concentrate on the Miligans again with help from Sadie King.

Meanwhile, Kim sees the baby as a potential heir and an opportunity to redeem herself for past mistakes regarding her family. This development could be the key to Kim proving herself to her long-lost daughter, Thea, played by Chelsea Edge, who currently sees her as a villain. With Thea set on vengeance against Kim, questions linger over whether Kim and Graham can continue to protect their secret while the ruse goes on for a while yet.
