Human ⁢Rights Day, observed ⁢annually on December 10th, serves⁣ as a powerful reminder that every individual⁤ deserves to live in a just and prosperous society, free ⁢from discrimination. This year’s theme, “Our Rights, our Future, Right Now,” underscores the crucial role human rights play in building⁣ a⁤ better world, notably⁢ for children.

Sadly, millions of children worldwide still lack access to fundamental rights, including healthcare and education. In Indonesia, the situation is particularly concerning. The ⁢2023 UNICEF Annual⁢ Report revealed that over 500,000 Indonesian children remain unvaccinated, while a staggering‌ one in five‌ toddlers suffers ⁣from stunting, a severe nutritional deficiency.

adding to these alarming figures, data released⁣ by the Indonesian Health Ministry in early 2024 indicated that over 1.8‌ million children nationwide have not received a‌ single dose of immunization. This figure represents a cumulative total from 2011 to 2023, with a worrying increase of approximately 500,000 unvaccinated children in 2023⁢ alone.

Addressing this critical issue is ‍a top priority for APRIL Group, a leading pulp and paper producer operating in pangkalan Kerinci, Riau. Through ‌its long-term commitment ‌outlined in the APRIL2030 vision, the company actively supports the Indonesian government’s efforts to ‌achieve the United Nations’ Enduring Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

APRIL Group is particularly focused on increasing access to healthcare⁣ services and reducing the prevalence of ⁣stunting by 50 percent in villages surrounding⁤ its operational areas in ‍Riau. This commitment was‌ highlighted⁣ during a series of social service activities held as ⁢part of the RGE Founder’s Day 2024 celebrations at the Pelalawan⁢ Estate in Riau province⁢ on November 30th.

APRIL Expands Health Initiative to Include Contractor Families in Riau

Riau, Indonesia – APRIL, a leading pulp and paper producer, has broadened its commitment to the well-being of its workforce by extending health initiatives to include families of‌ contractors working within its concession area in Riau.

Previously, programs‌ like immunization and supplementary food distribution (PMT) were⁤ primarily focused on children⁢ of APRIL employees. This expansion marks⁣ a significant step towards ensuring equitable access to essential services for‌ all individuals within the company’s operational ecosystem.

“The company is committed to ‍providing access to health and education to all workers and their families by upholding the ‘No Child⁢ Left Behind’ principle,” said Inra Gunawan, Legal compliance, Conservation ⁢and Human Rights Head ⁢of RAPP, APRIL’s operational unit. “through this activity, ⁤we are expanding this⁤ commitment by involving contractors and their families.”

This initiative, which took place recently, saw APRIL providing vital immunizations and supplementary food to ⁣children and families of contractors working in the concession area. APRIL Invests in Health ‌and Education for Riau Communities

Riau, Indonesia – APRIL Group, a leading pulp and paper producer, celebrated its annual RGE Founder’s ‍Day with‌ a series of impactful initiatives focused on improving the health and education of children in its operational areas.

The company organized catch-up immunization drives across 27 estates in riau, ensuring that children aged zero to two⁢ years old, particularly‌ those living in remote areas, received essential vaccinations. This effort aimed to ⁣bridge the gap in healthcare access ‌and‍ contribute to the province’s immunization goals.

“The⁣ Pelalawan Regency government, in this case⁣ the Health Office, greatly ‌appreciates RAPP which at the RGE Founder’s Day activity held ‍immunizations for children of contractors who had ⁣not been immunized. This action will certainly increase the achievement of immunization in Riau Province,” said ‌Drg. Aulia Rachman Khalid, Head of the Pelalawan Health Office’s P2P Division.

Beyond immunization, APRIL also addressed malnutrition by providing supplementary food to children aged 0 to‌ 5 years, a crucial step in preventing‌ stunting.

Building a brighter Future through Education

Recognizing the importance ⁢of education, APRIL inaugurated a new daycare center in the Pelalawan North estate, adding ‍to its existing network of three permanent daycare centers, seven mobile daycare centers, and seven mobile classrooms across various estates. These ⁣facilities provide safe and nurturing environments for children‌ while their parents work.

Furthermore, ⁤APRIL launched a boarding ⁢school, SMP Global andalan, for ⁤children ⁢of contractors, enabling them to access ‍quality education despite ⁤geographical ‍barriers.”If there was⁢ no ‍boarding ⁣school, I would have difficulty getting to the school location because it is far from home and difficult to access, about 40 minutes by speedboat then continued by bus,” shared Rain Jerrih Nababan, a student at the boarding school.

Rain expressed his gratitude for the school’s facilities and life skills training, which equip students for independence. He aspires to ⁤pursue higher education and ⁢work for RAPP in the future.
