EDERN, France (AP) — Residents of the Glazik region can look forward to improved access to dental care as two dentists prepare to establish practices in Edern’s health center by the end of 2025.Dr. Loredana Chis is scheduled to begin seeing patients on Monday,April 7,with a second dentist expected to arrive later in the year.
Mayor Praises End of Shortage
Edern Mayor Jean-Paul Cozien hailed the news, emphasizing the meaning of this growth for the community.”This marks the end of our medical desert,” Cozien said. “Some questioned our ability to attract healthcare professionals to the area, but I remained confident in the value of this project. In a region facing uneven access to care, it’s crucial to take initiative.”
Health Center Now Fully Occupied
The arrival of the two dentists completes the Edern health center, which opened in July 2024.The center already houses two general practitioners, seven nurses, an osteopath, an art therapist, and a kinesiologist.
Dentist Seeks to Serve Community
“I am delighted to practice in Edern,” said Dr. Chis, who previously practiced in Pau. “I relocated to Brittany to be closer to my family in Quimper.” Dr.Chis acknowledges the challenges posed by the shortage of dentists in the region. “My priority is to help people. The feeling of being useful is what motivates me,” she said.
dr. Chis plans to work four days a week – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and friday – with occasional Saturday hours. Appointments will be scheduled continuously between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Initially, patients are encouraged to book appointments through Doctolib, starting Wednesday, April 2.
Expansion of Health Services Considered
While other medical facilities struggle to attract occupants, Edern’s health center filled its vacancies within months. Mayor Cozien attributes this success to Edern’s designation as an “under-doctored” area, which provides incentives for medical professionals, and to the town’s responsiveness to practitioners’ needs.
“When this project began, I met with young doctors and learned what they wanted: to work collaboratively in modern facilities,” Cozien explained.”In 2014, our existing facilities were isolated, aging, or too small. Creating a dedicated health center became essential.”
Looking ahead, the mayor is considering expanding the health center to accommodate additional specialists. “This would allow us to welcome an ENT specialist or a cardiologist, for example, further addressing the healthcare needs of our residents,” Cozien said.
Making an Appointment
Appointments with Dr. Loredana Chis can be made via Doctolib starting Wednesday, April 2. Phone appointments are also available from April 7 by calling 02 98 50 89 92.
