The England women’s blind football team began their campaign at the 2025 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Women’s World Championship with a confident 2-0 win against Poland on Monday,October 6th. The match,held in India,marked the first of three group stage games for the Para Lionesses.

Second-Half Surge Seals the Win

A tightly contested first half gave way to a more decisive performance after the break. Megan Smithson-Booth opened the scoring midway through the second half, capitalizing on an indirect free-kick. She expertly fired a left-footed shot through a crowded penalty area, beating three defenders and the Polish goalkeeper.

Smithson-Booth quickly doubled england’s lead, showcasing her individual skill with a skillful turn on the halfway line. She then evaded two Polish defenders and finished with a precise shot through the goalkeeper’s legs, extending the advantage to 2-0.

Looking Ahead to Brazil

The Para Lionesses will continue their group stage play on Tuesday morning at 4:00 AM BST against Brazil. This match presents another opportunity to build momentum in the tournament.
