“Enjoy the biggest shooting star show this summer at home on the 12th night” – Sciencetimes

Gwacheon National Science Museum announced on the 9th that it will broadcast live Perseus meteor shower (shooting star) observation video through the science museum YouTube channel from the evening of the 12th to the dawn of the next day.

Meteor showers occur as the Earth passes through debris left in the orbit of a comet or asteroid by the solar wind.

The Perseus meteor shower, which can be seen from July 17 to August 24 every year, is named after the radiation point of the meteor is in the constellation Perseus. It is considered one of the meteor showers.

The International Meteor Organization (IMO) predicted this year’s peak of the Perseus meteor at around 4 am on the 13th.

In particular, the peak of the Perseus meteor shower this year is considered the best observation condition because there is no moon. If the weather is clear, you can see up to 110 meteors per hour, so it is expected to be the biggest shooting star observation event this summer.

The Gwacheon Science Museum dispatches an observation team to the Yanggu Guktojeong Central Observatory in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do to broadcast online observations. In the broadcast, scientific principles of meteors, observation methods, shooting methods, and photos of Perseus meteor showers taken around the world will also be introduced.

Director Lee Jeong-mo of the Gwacheon Science Museum said, “I hope that you can enjoy the meteor shower observation video provided by the science museum in the comfort of your home.”
